PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high speed processing while reducing power consumption significantly by performing a logical sum, a logical product or a composite operation thereof based on a tact that the tunneling to a lowest energy level is prohibited by the Pauli exclusion principle. SOLUTION: A logical sum, a logical product or a composite operation thereof can be performed by inputting electrons into an operational quantum box QD0 through irradiation of light, for example, and reading out the electron distribution in an array of quantum boxes QD1 , QD2 after the energy of electrons is relaxed. More specifically, presence/absence of an electron occupying the lowest energy level of the operational quantum box QD1 , QD2 is provided as bit information and a phenomenon that the operational quantum boxes are saturated sequentially starting from that having lowest energy level is utilized based on the fact that the tunneling to the lowest energy level is prohibited by the Pauli exclusion principle. Since the energy being dissipated from an electron, i.e., the energy being consumed for the operation of 1 bit, is extremely low, a quantum operating element having extremely low power consumption is obtained. |
