An electrostatic separator (ES) (12) has sections that extend in a direction of flow and form numerous flow channels. In each flow channel these sections lie opposite two parts of sections isolated from each other with different electrical voltage. A stream (11) of gas contaminated with particles of soot is carried away in an exhaust pipe (10). The particles are precipitated in the ES.
