PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the industrial production of an acetylenic polymer having high polymer yield even by using a group-8 metal complex catalyst. SOLUTION: The acetylenic polymer is produced by polymerizing an acetylene compound having a substituent in a mixed liquid containing a solvent in the presence of an organic metal complex catalyst while keeping the water content of the mixed liquid to≤3 mass%, preferably≤1 mass%.
