The invention concerns a process for the target-orientated modification of CRC checksums where a reference checksum (FCS SOLL) is being provided for a target program (ZP). The reference checksum (FCS SOLL) is attained on the basis of a constant (K) with the value (K IST), which is introduced in the initial program (AP), and an actual checksum (FCS IST) including the value (K IST). The difference between the actual checksum (FCS IST) and the reference checksum (FCS SOLL) is calculated and the constant (K IST) is adjusted in the initial program (AP) until the reference checksum (FCS SOLL) is reached.
