An apparatus and a method for the removal of methane, CH4, and nitrous oxide, N2O, from the exhaust gases (2) during operation of a combustion engine (1), particularly during rich operation of the engine, is presented, wherein the apparatus comprises means for parameter tuning of the engine, a NOx reduction catalyst (4a) including means for NOx reduction and catalysts (4b) for reducing methane and nitrous oxide in the exhaust gases (2) of the engine (1).
