<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ticket reader 1 which decides the presence/absence of stuck dust 5 from an image read by an image reading element 2 when the dust is stuck to a platen roller 3, and if decided that the dust 5 is stuck, can notify a crew member as such. <P>SOLUTION: The number N of repetitions of the detection of an image, among images read by the image reading element 2, having, in the feed direction, a width not larger than a predetermined width is counted by a counting means 13.
