PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file management system capable of finding a file designated by a program or the like when the file is moved onto a different directory path by an erroneous operation or the like. SOLUTION: This file management system of a computer is so structured that one file and/or one directory are/is permitted to belong to two or more directories. The file management system is characterized in that, when an operation object file designated by an operator of the computer or a program operating on the computer is limited as the only one file having at least one directory on the route of its directory path as a parent directory, the file is used as the operation object.
