As a gene encoding a novel protein which is equivalent in function to a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) serving as an important sensor of cells in vivo, a DNA comprising the base sequence as represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or its complementary chain is found out. Thus, it is intended to provide the DNA and its homolog; a protein encoded by the above DNA; a vector containing the above DNA; a transformant containing the above vector; an antibody against the above protein; a method of identifying a compound controlling the function and/or the expression of the above protein using the same; a method of identifying a ligand of the protein; a ligand of the protein; a medicinal composition usable for a disease caused by abnormalities in the function and expression of the protein; and an assay method and a reagent kit to be used in diagnosing the disease.
