PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide energy conversion fiber which can be made lighter in weight and can be made small in installation space, has high sound-absorbing performance and is appropriate as a sound reducing material of automobiles and the like, and to provide a sound absorbing material composed of such fiber. SOLUTION: A core-sheath type composite fiber body 4, consisting of a core component 2a and a sheath component 2b, is constituted by using fibers composed of thermoplastic resin as the core component 2a and forming, as the sheath component 2b, a layer 6a having a polyester containing a piezoelectric material 6b and a conductive material 6c as the main component, over the entire side face in at least the fiber length direction.
