PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having structure which is easily miniaturized even when it is constituted to obtain the smooth and good-quality display of a moving picture. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with: an ellipsoidal reflector 114; a light emitting tube 112; an integrator rod 120A; a liquid crystal display device 400; and a projection optical system 600, and further equipped with: a rotating plate 20 arranged on the reflector 114 side of the rod 120A and intermittently intercepting light so that the light radiated to the display device 400 may be intercepted synchronizing with the screen write-in frequency of the display device 400; and a polarized light conversion element 130 arranged between the plate 20 and the rod 120A and converting the light from the reflector 114 to polarized light.
