The rotor (2) extends along a rotational axis (5) and has two axially adjoining rotor parts (2a, 2b, 2c) welded together with the welding zone (15) circumferentially enclosing a cavity (18) which is formed from two indentations (16, 17) in the ends of the rotor parts. The cavity forms a constituent part of a cooling duct system (19) through which the cooling vapour flows.
