A light emitting device includes: a plurality of luminescent cells each having substantially same thickness and including a first and a second conductive layers having conductive characteristic and a light emitting layer being sandwiched by the first and the second conductive layers and including a luminescent material that emits light when a voltage is applied; a first electrode substrate being contacted with the first conductive layer of each of the luminescent cells to be electrically connected therewith; a second electrode substrate being contacted with the second conductive layer of each of the luminescent cells to be electrically connected therewith; and a sealing member that seals the luminescent cells within a space formed between the first and the second electrode substratess. The first electrode substrate and the first conductive layer are transparent with respect to the light emitted from the light emitting layer.
