METHOD OF OBTAINING STYRENE POLYMER PARTICLES AND EXPANDABLE STYRENE POLYMER PARTICLES

The preparation of polymer particles containing a vinylarene polymer by suspension polymerisation comprises suspending a prepolymerised mass in an aqueous medium and polymerising the vinylarene monomer in the obtained suspended droplets to complete monomer conversion to give suspended polymer particles. The prepolymerised mass contained the vinylarene monomer prepolymerised to a conversion degree of 20-70%, based on the vinylarene monomer and water emulsified with an emulsifier. Also claimed are polymer particles comprising a polymer of vinylarene monomer, 8-15 wt.% water and an emulsifier.
