摘要 <p>In a hot dipping process a rod or tube e.g. of copper is continuously passed into an evacuated passage, the periphery of the rod being engaged at the entrance to the passage to form a seal and simultaneously a cutter or shaver removes a thin layer from the surface of the rod which is then passed through a nozzle in a crucible containing molten metal which is deposited on the moving rod. As shown in Fig. 1, the rod 2 is passed through a drawing die section 3 incorporating a series of dies and a rotating cutter grooving tool, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), a shaving cutter 4 which removes the surface oxide and forms a seal with the rod surface. The rod is driven through evacuated passage 5, 6, 8, 25 by rolls 9 and 10 and enters crucible 26 via nozzle 29. The crucible heated by coil 36 contains molten copper 30 supplied from furnace 31. The level of the metal in the crucible is sensed by a control means 38 which actuates a servomotor 37 which lowers a graphite block 34 into the molten reservoir <PICT:0992427/C6-C7/1> in furnace 31 and the metal then flows into the crucible. An inert gas is maintained above the metal in the crucible and the coated rod is discharged via nozzle 43 and cooling sprays 44 to a shock isolation loop 45 comprising an arm 46 pivoting about a shaft 47, pulleys 48 and counterweight 49. As the rod emerges from the nozzle it enters pulleys 48, the reaction causing arm 46 to rotate and open valve 50 which supplies air to the servomotor 42 which controls the speed of the discharge drive wheels 55 and 56.
