External preparations for allergic dermatitis containing Aspirin ( acetylsalicylic acid ) alone as the active ingredient, are useful for treating allergic dermatitis with lower side effects than alternative treatments; and a method for treating allergic dermatitis by using these agents for external use. Such medicaments may be formulated as an ointment, a tape, a cataplasm, an aerosol or an external powder, and may contain one or more non-toxic carriers. The allergic dermatitis may be a type I or type IV allergy, and may be selected from atopic dermatitis, eczema, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, lichen Vidal, nummular eczema, house-wife-eczema and phototoxic dermatitis.
