The cosmetic use of activator(s) (I) of the production of interleukin 11 (IL-11) by cutaneous epidermal cells and/or sebaceous gland cells, in a composition (A) for topical application, is claimed as a slimming agent. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) topically applied slimming compositions (A') containing (I), where (I) is selected from hydroxystilbenes, their derivatives or plant extracts containing such compounds and either (I) is in a formulation for targeting the pilo-sebaceous unit or (I) is associated with lipolytic and/or lipogenesis inhibiting agent(s); and (2) cosmetic methods for preventing and/or combating cellulite and/or 'orange-peel' skin and/or for refining or slimming the silhouette or contours of the face, involving treating the skin with a composition comprising (I) (selected from hydroxystilbenes, their derivatives or plant extracts containing such compounds) provided that the composition is free of retinoids. ACTIVITY : Anorectic; dermatological. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Cellular interleukin 11 (IL-11) production activator. In tests in immortalized human sebocyte cultures, addition of resveratrol (Ia) at a concentration of 100 MicroM increased the production of IL-11 over 24 hours by 67%.
