A road safety barrier comprises four or more ropes (4,5,6,7) supported by posts (8, 9,10) rigidly mounted on or in the ground, each rope is held against the posts (8,9,10) and following a sinuous path between posts. The ropes (4,5,6,7) are tensioned against the posts (8,9,10) and give rise to a combined frictional resistance to displacement of the ropes relative to each post along the length of the safety barrier and the structure of at least some of the posts and/or their mourning with respect to the ground defines a minimum bending yield strength is greater than the bending moment resulting from the combined frictional resistance forces acting on the post, whereby the minimum bending yield strength is greater than the bending moment resulting from the combined frictional resistance forces acting on the post.
|
