Disclosed is a safety strap in combination with a structural connector, the safety strap being connected to the connector so as to provide a load transmitting connection bearing thereto, the safety strap providing at least two elongated angled portions extending outwards from the connector, each elongated portion having at least one weakened area formed therein, so as to provide for localized ductile failure of the strap at a predetermined load, both the safety strap and the structural connector being adapted to be cast into a concrete building element such that substantially all of the safety strap and the structural connector are enclosed within the building element, the safety strap and the structural connector being dimensioned and arranged such that when in use an overload is applied to the structural connector, the load initially is taken primarily by the structural connector and all load is applied to the safety strap only after the load exceeds the strength of the concrete surrounding the structural connector.
