FIELD: biological purification of sewage. ^ SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the field of biological purification of sewage, in particular, to processes of treatment of the settlings formed at a biological purification of sewage, including an excess active sludge. The active sludge and its mixture with dump settlings of sewage are exposed to an aerobic stabilization. The aerobic stabilization is realized in a mode of periodic aeration provided, that the length of a period without aeration does not exceed two hours. The method may be conducted at the following ratio of a period of aeration: a period without aeration 3 hours: 1 hour, or 2 hours: 1 hour or 4 hours: 2 hours.
