PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the response of a structure to external force such as an earthquake or wind. SOLUTION: This compound damper includes a hysteresis damper and a visco-elastic damper disposed in a plane of structure constituting a column-beam frame of a building. The hysteresis damper is an intermediate post type damper having an energy absorbing part and a shaft part. The visco-elastic damper is preferably formed by stacking a steel plate and a visco-elastic body alternately, and disposed to have a dynamic path serial with the intermediate type damper between the energy absorbing part and an upper beam or a lower beam. The hysteresis damper forms right and left leg parts of a portal structure, and the visco-elastic damper forms the head part of the portal structure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
