Embodiments of the invention disclosed herein relate to methods of preventing and/or ameliorating one or more symptoms associated with an eye disease such as dry eye syndrome, cataracts of the eye and nuclear sclerosis of the eye lens by administering to a subject a therapeutically effective amount of Nalpha-acetyl-L-histidine. Additionally, provided herein are pharmaceutical compositions comprising Nalpha-acetyl-L-histidine. Kits for preventing and/or ameliorating one or more symptoms associated with an eye disease by administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising Nalpha-acetyl-L-histidine are also disclosed.
