[PROBLEMS] To provide a fluorescent whiteness enhancer which, when used in combination with a fluorescent whitening agent, can remarkably improve fluorescent whiteness and whiteness. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The fluorescent whiteness enhancer, which is for use in combination with a fluorescent whitening agent, is characterized by comprising as an essential ingredient a polyoxyalkylene compound represented by the general formula (1). The fluorescent whiteness enhancer may be characterized by comprising as an essential ingredient a polyoxyalkylene compound (A) having a structure obtained by reacting a nonreducing di- or trisuccharide (a1) with a C2-4 alkylene oxide (a2). General formula {H-(OA)n-}tQ (1) Q is a reaction residue of the nonreducing di- or trisaccharide; OA is oxyalkylene; H is hydrogen; t n's may be the same or different and each is an integer of 1 to 75; and the total number of OA's per molecule is 2 to 150 when t is 2, and is 3 to 300 when t is 3 to 4.
