PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner for precisely deciding abnormality due to the failure of a light emitting means or an image pickup means. SOLUTION: Abnormal pixels are detected on the basis of white data and black data for each pixel acquired at the time of white reference correction (S1 to S4), and when the number of continuity of adjacent abnormal pixels is a first reference number, it is decided that the abnormality is caused by the failure of a light emitting part 51, and when the number of continuity is a second reference number, it is decided that the abnormality is caused by a CIS 52. According to the number of times of errors decided to be the abnormalities, a message showing the occurrence of the abnormality and a message for countermeasures to the abnormality are displayed on an LCD 14.
