PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic file management system convenient for retrieval by a plurality of departments. SOLUTION: This electronic file management system 1 has a server machine 3 having a storage means, and two client machines 5, 7 connected to the server machine 3 via a line. The storage means is stored with a classification code master database and a main database. The classification code master database is stored with a large number of classification code groups decided in each department. The main database is stored with a large number of electronic files. Each electronic file is associated with not only a classification code selected from one classification code group, but also a classification code selected from other classification groups.
