PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic pigment suitable for coated paper excellent in blank paper gloss and printing gloss and having good ink set properties and blocking resistance, a paper-coating composition containing the organic pigment and coated paper coated with the paper-coating composition. SOLUTION: The organic pigment is obtained by emulsion copolymerizing 100 pts.wt. of a monomer mixture having a specific composition, has 150-400 nm volume average particle diameter and 40 wt.% or more of tetrahydrofuran-insoluble component, and is characterized in that it is obtained by emulsion copolymerizing 10-60 pts.wt. of a monomer mixture (B) having a specific composition comprised of a conjugated diene monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer, and another monomer that is copolymerizable with these monomers in the presence of a copolymer latex obtained by emulsion copolymerizing 40-90 pts.wt. of a monomer mixture (A) having a specific composition comprised of a conjugated diene monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and another monomer % that is copolymerizable with these monomers.
