A cage is lifted and lowered as guided by guide rails installed in a shaft. A pair of rope bodies are suspended in the shaft. A pair of driving units are mounted in the lower portion of the cage. Each driving unit has a drive sheave. The drive sheave has a rope body wound thereon. Further, the lower portion of the cage has a pair of deflecting wheels mounted therein. Each deflecting wheel has the rope body (5) wound thereon. Suspended from the lower ends of the rope bodies is a weight for imparting tension to the rope bodies. The weight is disposed within a region defined by vertically projecting the cage. |
