An intermetallic compound which can provide a material exhibiting a high strength at a high temperature and excellent creep resistance characteristics, and a method for producing said intermetallic compound are provided. A Ni base alloy of the present invention, characterized in that it comprises an HCP base type intermetallic compound as a reinforcing phase; and a method for producing the above Ni base alloy, characterized in that it comprises melting a base alloy having a composition wherein each phase constituting an HCP base compound is present as a single phase or as a main component phase, applying a crystal orientation control to the base alloy, to prepare an intermetallic compound crystal, and imposing a load on the intermetallic compound crystal in a specific crystal orientation.
