PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an operator to smoothly and easily move a C-arm type X-ray apparatus mounted on a carriage in his or her hands. SOLUTION: This X-ray apparatus is provided with: a C-type arm 25 which has an X-ray tube 21, an image intensifier 22 and a TV camera 23, fitted respectively to both ends of it; the carriage 31 mounting the C-type arm 25 through a holding apparatus 26; an operation handle 35 provided at the carriage 31; an operating direction detector 36 for detecting the operating direction of this operation handle 35; a moving direction detector 37 for detecting the moving direction of the carriage 31 by catching moving of a caster 32; and a brake control circuit 39 which compares outputs from both of the detectors 36 and 37, determines that the operating direction is opposite to the moving direction, and sends a control signal of brake start to a brake apparatus 38.
