PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can suppress a reduction in suction force by an electric blower. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner is constituted in such a manner that an air passage switching means 71 which can selectively switch air passages to either one of a main air passage W1 and a subsidiary air passage is provided. At the time of a normal cleaning, the main air passage W1 is selected, and dust and dirt are collected by a main dust collecting chamber 35, and when dust and dirt are accumulated in the main dust collecting chamber 35, the main air passage W1 is switched to the subsidiary air passage by the air passage switching means 71, and dust and dirt collected in the main dust collecting chamber 35 can be moved to a subsidiary dust collecting chamber 36. Therefore, the reduction in suction force by the electric blower 7 resulting from the accumulation of dust and dirt in the main dust collecting chamber 35 can be suppressed.
