<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dielectric porcelain composition which has a high dielectric constant, is used as a dielectric layer of a multilayer ceramic capacitor, and is highly reliable even when the capacitor is thin-layered and multi-layered. <P>SOLUTION: The dielectric porcelain composition is produced by a method having a process wherein a barium titanate-based main component and a subcomponent are fired in the presence of a halogen compound, the addition amount of the halogen compound being more than 0.05 mol but less than 2.0 mol based on 100 mol of the main component.
