PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel having superior luminous efficiency, capable of stably making a write-in operation and at a high speed, as well as enabling making it high in definition. SOLUTION: A priming electrode 36 is provided on a rear-face base plate 31, and barrier ribs 34 are provided so as to limit discharge spaces of main discharge cells 40 into spaces, corresponding to a transparent part of scanning electrodes 22 and a transparent part of sustaining electrodes 23, and a discharge gap part made by these. Further, an interval of a gap part 41b, generated on a side of two adjacent sustaining electrodes 23, is made narrower than that of a priming discharge cell 41a of a gap part 41 generated on the side of two adjacent scanning electrodes 22.
