An image (2) in which a subject appears is acquired (step S1). The acquired image (2) is divided, based on color composition, into a plurality of areas, and a representing color image (4) is produced by replacing the colors of those areas by the colors representing those areas (step S2). The representing color image (4) is displayed on a monitor together with the acquired image (2) (step S3). The user observes the acquired image (2) and representing color image (4) to designate areas, in the representing color image (4), corresponding to the subject (step S4). The designated areas are treated as subject areas (step S5). This allows the user to readily designate a subject part in an image, with the result that the user's labor can be reduced when the user cuts out the subject in the image. |
