PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a measuring instrument and to raise the accuracy of measurement.
SOLUTION: This optical waveguide sensor is constructed so that first and second core layers 2 and 3 having larger flexibility than the substrate 1 has and serving as optical waveguides, are disposed on a surface of a substrate 1 functioning as a cladding layer. A space between the first and second core layers 2 and 3 is partly narrowed to cause a light wave progressing in these core layers to produce optical mode coupling. In this mode coupling area, a detector 4 is disposed interacting with substances to be detected such as chemical substances or biological substances in contact with liquid or gas. On a surface of the detector 4, a receptor material which selectively captures the substances to be detected is fixed. Antibodies, enzymes, cells, ionophores, single-strand DNA, and the like are examples of the receptor material.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
|
