PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing method capable of effectively preventing the occurrence of vertical streak in a gray image and the occurrence of black spot in the initial stage of development when performing a jumping development by using magnetic toner. SOLUTION: The developing method includes: supplying the magnetic toner onto a cylindrical non-magnetic sleeve by rotating the sleeve, with magnets fixed in positions; and causing a magnetic toner layer whose thickness is adjusted to a predetermined thickness by a magnetic blade to fly, thereby developing with the toner an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoreceptor drum. In the developing method, the magnetic blade is disposed such that the center of the sleeve is located on a line extending to the upstream side face of the magnetic blade in the direction of the rotation of the sleeve. The leading end face of the magnetic blade includes a flat face that continues from the lower end of the upstream side face and perpendicularly intersects the line extending to the upstream side face, and an inclined face continuing from the flat face.
