PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily manufacturing a display unit which has an independently rotatable columnar display element enclosed in a transparent hollow cylinder, with the surface of the display element is divided into regions of different colors for display and with the display element polarized into two poles of different electrification states from each other. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a display unit includes: a hollow cylinder forming step to form the hollow cylinder sealing at least one display element by cutting a hollow fiber having at least one display element inside and sealing the cut faces by using a laser; and a display element cutting step to cut at least one display element sealed in the hollow cylinder into at least two parts by a laser.
