Method and system for providing an image of an object moving with a known speed relative to a camera, especially objects being covered by a specular reflecting surface, comprising the use of a linear sensor camera adapted to sample a linear image with a chosen resolution of the object at a chosen sampling rate, the object passing in a direction essentially perpendicular to the image line, the method comprising illuminating the object from at least two directions in a sequence synchronized with said sampling rate, so as to obtain different illumination direction in adjacent samples.
