MULTIFUNCTIONAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND SWITCHING LIQUID CRYSTAL PANEL FOR FORMING SLIT MASK USED FOR THE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly select a display out of a solid image display, a multiple picture display with which pictures varying in accordance with an angle of observation are visible and a two-dimensional image display.

SOLUTION: The multifunctional display device includes an image display part and a switching liquid crystal panel and forms various slit masks on the switching liquid crystal panel conforming to whether the solid image display or the multiple picture image is to be displayed on the image display part. On the one transparent electrode substrate 210 of the switching liquid crystal panel, a first comb teeth shaped transparent electrode 212 having first branched electrodes 211 extending along a row direction and wired in parallel in a column direction with specified gaps and a second comb teeth shaped transparent electrode 214 having second branched electrodes 213 disposed so as to alternate with the first branched electrodes 211 are formed, and on the other transparent electrode substrate, a third comb teeth shaped transparent electrode 222 having third branched electrodes 221 extending along a column direction and wired nearly in parallel in a row direction with specified gaps and a fourth comb teeth shaped transparent electrode 224 having fourth branched electrodes 223 disposed so as to alternate with the third branched electrodes 221 are formed. A row slit mask or a column slit mask is formed by controlling carried current toward the first to fourth transparent electrodes.
