<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antiseptic germicide for enhancing antimicrobial activity against a wide range of microbial strains, which 1,2-octanediol essentially has, by formulating 1,2-octainediol with 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid or its salt, and a cosmetic, a medicine or a food formulated with the antiseptic germicide. <P>SOLUTION: The antiseptic germicide comprises 1,2-octainediol and 1-hydroxyethane 1,1-diphosphonic acid or its salt.
