PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data input device which can reduce a key input frequency and also lessen an input error even if an input mode is changed when inputting a server name or an IP address, and to provide a data input method thereof. SOLUTION: The data input device is provided with; an operation means in which a plurality of keys to be depressed by an operator are arranged; an input mode switching means which switches a mode to one input mode out of a plurality of input modes when a prescribed key among a plurality of keys is depressed; an input format display means which switches a format to one input format among a plurality of input formats prepared in advance according to the input mode and displays it in an input object area; a data conversion means which converts a depression frequency of each key into a corresponding data; and a data conversion switching means which switches the data conversion means according to the switched input mode.
