<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device having high display characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer 3 interposed between a front surface side transparent substrate 2 and a rear face side transparent substrate 7 and is so constituted that the rear face side transparent substrate 7 is used as a light guide plate. Thereby, a polarization layer 4 is provided between the liquid crystal layer 3 and the rear face side transparent substrate 7 and a semitransparent reflection layer 6 having a reflection region 61 and a transmission region 62 is provided between the polarization layer 4 and the rear face side transparent substrate 7.
