<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device capable of generating voices only for characters required to be confirmed by a user by generating voices corresponding to stored input characters when an operation interval more than fixed time is left while considering the interval of key input operation at the input of characters or present character input operation is shifted to different character input. <P>SOLUTION: When other characters are continuously inputted by the same key input within fixed time, a character selection determination part 201 updates the stored contents of a present candidate storage part 202 and outputs the updated candidate characters to a display control part 204 as display characters, which are displayed on a liquid crystal display part 103. At this point of time, voices corresponding to the displayed candidate characters are not reproduced.
