PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a graphic data management method and its system capable of further rapidly retrieving graphic data belonging to a range designated by a retrieval request. SOLUTION: This graphic data management method is equipped with an index storage means with coordinate values of a circumscribed rectangle of stored graphic data stored as an index, and used for retrieving, for a retrieval request of the graphic data, a graphic form belonging to a retrieval range designated by the retrieval request by referring to the index. The method is characterized by having a step for determining, as graphics out of the retrieval range, a graphic form where no apexes of the circumscribed rectangle are present in the retrieval range designated by the retrieval request, a graphic form where only one apex is present therein, and a graphic form where a line segment connecting two apexes outside the retrieval range does not cross the retrieval range by referring to only the index.
