PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packing machine, automatically measuring the diameter of a web at the start of using without user's measurement on the diameter of the rolled web. SOLUTION: A fourth driving motor 40 is linked with the web film 15, and the web film is rotated in a predetermined direction to deliver a belt-like film 16, and guide the same to a bag manufacturing device 18. A second distance measuring device 53 for measuring the length of an arc of the web film is fitted to a rotating shaft 43 of the web film, and a movable first distance measuring device 51 is provided in the course of drawing out the belt-like film. The fourth driving motor is rotated for a fixed time, and the length of an arc of the rotating shaft 43 and the moving distance (the length of an arc of the web film) at that time are measured by the respective measuring devices. The measured values are sent to a processor, and the diameter of the web film is obtained from both data and the diameter of the rotating shaft. The obtained diameter is sent to a speed control device 38, and used for initializing the rotating speed at the start of the fourth driving motor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
