PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool which discharges chips spattered/accumulated in the machine tool without setting pipes in the same, and to provide a chip discharging method. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the machine tool, fluid such as liquid or gas is discharged not via pipes set in the machine tool but via an opening formed in a wall portion in order to discharge chips, and therefore the fluid is ejected from the inner wall along a wall surface, whereby the chips affixed to/accumulated on the side walls and a bottom surface in the machine tool are discharged. The machine tool 1 includes the opening 5 communicating between the inside and outside of a casing 2 thereof, and a fluid feeding means 3 set outside the machine tool or on the machine tool, and therefore the machine tool discharges chips by pouring the fluid fed from the fluid feeding means 3 via the opening 5 to the interior of the casing 2.
