The invention relates to a data carrier into which markings are introduced by means of a laser beam, said markings being visible in the form of laser beam-generated irreversible changes of the optical characteristics of the data carrier. The inventive data carrier comprises a laser-sensitive layer (20) that is opaque in the visible spectral range and is combined with a securing layer (22) which is metallized at least in a subarea. The markings (30, 32) are introduced simultaneously and with matching registers into the laser-sensitive layer (20) and the metallized subarea (24) of the securing layer (22).
