PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture coding apparatus for carrying out seamless connection between chapters without causing deviation between video data and audio data.

SOLUTION: An offset storage section 513 stores an audio offset. The audio offset indicates a deviation between the video data and the audio data. An offset update section 512 updates the offset storage section 513. A recording mode discrimination section 511 discriminates whether or not the seamless connection between the chapters can be executed and sets an initial value to the offset storage section 513 on the basis of the result of the discrimination. A recording control section 514 refers to the audio offset stored in the offset storage section 513 and instructs start of coding so that the audio data are recorded earlier by a time corresponding to the audio offset than the video data. A fade control section 515 controls the adjustment of a sound volume at start and stop of the coding.
