PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a good image by achieving shortening of scanning interval and improvement of a contrast simultaneously while performing writing discharge steadily, while avoiding cost increase of a drive circuit. SOLUTION: The PDP 10 constituting a principal part of a plasma display device has a structure in which a unit cell group is formed at the intersection of a row electrode group and a column electrode group, and each unit cell 17 is constructed of a display cell 18 and an auxiliary cell 19 formed adjacent to each other along the column direction V, and respective cells 18, 19 are surrounded by a horizontal barrier rib 15H formed along the row direction H and a vertical barrier rib 15V formed along the column direction V. Further, a horizontal communicating aperture 20A is formed on the vertical barrier rib 15V which divides a plurality of auxiliary cells 19 arranged along the row direction H, and a vertical communicating aperture 20B is formed on the horizontal barrier rib 15H which divides the display cell 18 and the auxiliary cell 19 arranged along the column direction V.
