A thermographic transfer sheet comprises a support coated with a porous, spongy layer comprising a non-transferable film-forming material in which is dispersed a heat-transferable composition consisting of a solid material incompatible with the film-former and a colour-former. Images may be carried on the other side of the support. The film-forming material may be zein, a vinyl polymer, a hydrocarbon polymer, gelatin, albuium, casein, a cellulose ether, starch, gum arabic or tragacanth. The solid material is a polyethylene glycol or a wax which may contain oil. The colour former may be a dye or one component of a two-component colour-forming system. The transfer sheet is contacted with an original (if images are not present in the transfer sheet) and a receptor sheet and heated so that the composition transfers imagewise to the receptor sheet which contains a second component of a colour forming system if necessary. |
