PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy member having excellent casting, forging and mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy member has a composition containing, by weight, 3.0 to 4.2% Si, 0.4 to 0.6% Mg,≤0.2% Fe and≤0.5%, in total, of Zn, Mn, Ni, Sn and Cr and being free from Cu as an essential additive element. In the method for manufacturing the aluminum alloy member, a molten aluminum alloy of the above composition is cast into an approximately shaped casting 2 having a shape approximating an end-product shape by using a mold 1. Subsequently, the resultant approximately shaped casting 2 is hot-forged under the condition of 30 to 50% forging reduction in thickness. The resultant forged member is subjected to solution treatment, cooled rapidly and then allowed to stand in an atmosphere of 160°C for 6 to 8 h for aging treatment. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
