<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the truthful transfer of a toner image and a decrease in reverse transfer toner by adjusting a transfer nip width and performing transfer in a state without any transfer pressure, when performing the transfer of a toner image formed in an image carrier to an intermediate transfer member in an image forming method using the intermediate transfer member. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming method (device), the toner image formed in the image carriers 40 (Y, M, C, B) is sequentially transferred to the intermediate transfer member 10, and toner images having a plurality of colors are formed at the intermediate transfer member. A roller 90 for adjusting nip width in which the image carriers and the intermediate transfer member in transfer come into contact is installed at the left and right of transfer rollers 62 (Y, M, C, B) provided at the backside of the intermediate transfer member 10 for applying a transfer bias, when transferring the toner image to the intermediate transfer member 10. The diameter of the roller 90 is set equal to or larger than the diameter of the transfer roller, thus reducing the contact width at the nip as much as possible. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
